Some older articles are only available in PDF file formats; however, we are working to convert many of these to full text Our article PDF files are accessible to screen readers and select journal articles are available in full text to improve accessibility. We recommend using our content in the full text format whenever possible to ensure that text reflows correctly based on your browser size, and that alternative descriptions and tables are formatted correctly.
Accessibility Standards
Our technology partner, HighWire Press, has an ongoing strategy to support accessibility as defined in Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (29 U.S.C. § 794 (d)) (https://www.section508.gov/content/learn/laws-and-policies) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 (https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20/). HighWire audits its book and journal site products against these standards annually. Standard HighWire pages for book and journal sites either “support” or “support with some exceptions” VPAT (https://www.itic.org/policy/accessibility/vpat/) Section 1194.22 Web-based intranet and Internet information and applications where applicable.
Known Issues
We are aware that the frame on http://www.uwpress.org/ is not fully responsive. When you magnify the content, it will not reflow. Additionally, older PDF’s are not tagged and might interfere with screen reader effectiveness.
What We’re Doing to Improve Accessibility
We recently migrated our hosted content to an updated platform, which has improved accessibility. We are working with our typesetters to convert future issues to full text.
